About the Original

Mike´s and Larry´s Dream

Mike and Larry Alexander had the big dream of converting the Dodge A 100, launched in 1964, according to their own ideas. Fortunately, the two Alexander brothers knew Harry Bradley, who worked in the design department at General Motors and helped them to bring their ideas on paper. With these design sketches, the brothers walked into the headquarters of Dodge, put the designs on the table and asked if they would be supported/ provided with an A 100 for the realization of their ideas!

Their brazen request did not fail to have an effect and the two were actually supported with the desired production car.

Within the next three years, they built the vehicle according to their plans and made extensive changes of the original vehicle structure.

The special thing and at the same time also the highlight of their massive conversion was the absence of any doors. Boarding was done from the front through an elaborate mechanism. First, the windshield, which was originally a rear window from a Ford station wagon, had to be folded up and locked. Then the front was turned outwards on a central axis. At the same time, the steering wheel also swung to the side. This created a small space on the right side – seen from the font – to get in or out. The tub-shaped lading space, a noble looking, golden-colored varnish, wide tires on shiny chrome rims that were common at the time and a performance-enhanced six-cylinder engine completed the unique look that corresponded exactly to the zeitgeist of customized vehicles at the time.
