About the Original:

Ingeniously Simple

The company “bimobil” initially presented its demountable camper system named husky on a Peugeot 504 in 1979. The bimobil-camper was designed such, that it could be mounted to the fixing points of the load-bed onto the chassis. At the end of 1979 the demountable camper system went on sale and the company “von Liebe GmbH”, which had only just been founded by the married couple Raimund von Liebe and Veronika Maisch-Liebe two years earlier, became quickly known within the camping scene. Admittedly the French car laid the foundation of the bimobil-husky-system, but the “run” for the demountable campers began only as the system became also available for other cars.

It turned out to be a major coup, as the Mercedes-Benz off-road vehicle G-Class became part of the range of basic vehicles for the demountable camper system. The Swabian off-road vehicle, which was initially presented in 1979, appealed primarily hardened globetrotters, as it ensured reliable travelling also in rough and remote terrain. The tough Mercedes paired with the camper cabin, which was designed for a comfortable living, were a perfect match. Even in the most remote places one had not to go without a comfortable, soft bed and a cooking facility.

Meanwhile the application of the bimobil-system has been extended to many other production vehicles, but probably no other combination in the almost 40-year old company history could win the hearts of so many adventurers, extreme travelers or globetrotters, like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class with the bimobil-camper in all its numerous facets and shapes did.
