About the Original
The motorized Trailer
At the sight of this truck, many road users in the early 1950s must have been surprised, because it seemed as if a three-axle trailer with a box body drove around independently!
Manufacturer of this truck was the US company ‘Fageol Motors Company’. After World War, the plant was looking for a niche to position itself on the market.
As a result, the idea geminated to design a truck with maximum loading possibilities in the dimensions of a conventional truck. This idea eventually led to the completely new concept of a “Super Freighter”. The basis for the truck was really a three-axle trailer from the manufacturer ‘Freuhauf Trailer Corporation’.
The box body was kept in the rear part, but at the front Fageol had to put up with massive interventions. The aluminum structure was replaced by a semicircular front and was reinforced both at the top and bottom. Two curved windows, with a stiffening strut in the middle, ensured the view for the driver A sparse interior and to simple doors completed the cab. Two small steps at the doors were used for boarding.
Immediately behind the driver’s seat, the storage space for the load began. The under floor diesel engine from the production of ‘International Harvester’ found its place in the middle of the chassis. The truck remained a unique piece.
