About the Original
One of Two
Ferrari introduced the Type 212 at the Brussels Motor Show in 1951 as a further developed successor to the 166 model. What the Italians put on its wheels not only inspired the sport-oriented community, but also appealed to the drivers who preferred exclusivity.
The almost 2.6-litre Colombo V12 engine with an impressive performance of 150 horsepower pleased everybody – a top speed of over 180 km/h was enough to line up in the front row in the 1950s.
Of course, the chassis with its 2,600 mm wheelbase also animated the numerous well-known designers in Italy. One of these designers was no less than Pininfarina.
The partnership between Enzo Ferrari and Battista “Pinin” Farina had only existed for a short time and yet it was to become one of the most productive and creative relationships in the industry, which gave the automotive world first-class visual and technical treats.
Pininfarina dressed the Type 212 with the chassis no. 0297 in an extremely noble-looking coupe body, which led to an unparalleled beauty with the two-tone color combination, the huge radiator grille and the spoked rims. The car was one of two Ferrari 250 Europa Coupes that were bodied by the renowned Italian Company Pininfarina.
